Customize Assistants and Debug with Ease
As we approach the end of Vapi Launch Week, we're excited to introduce two powerful features that will help you create more personalized and efficient voice assistants: Assistant Overrides and Variables and Call Logs! š
šØ Assistant Overrides and Variables
With Assistant Overrides and Variables, you can now re-use the same assistant and plug in custom variables directly into the prompt, saving you time and effort when creating new assistants.
This feature allows you to create more dynamic and tailored voice experiences without starting from scratch.
š ļø How does it work?
- Create an assistant with a base prompt that includes variables (e.g., "Hello, my name is {{assistant_name}}")
- When calling the assistant, provide values for the variables in the API request (e.g., "assistant_name": "John")
- The variables will be replaced with the provided values, creating a personalized prompt for each call
By using Assistant Overrides and Variables, you can create assistants that adapt to different scenarios, users, or contexts, making your voice experiences more engaging and relevant.

š Call Logs
Debugging voice assistants can be challenging, but with Vapi's new Call Logs feature, it's easier than ever.
Call Logs provide detailed information about each call, showing you everything that's happening under the hood, down to the millisecond.
What can you do with Call Logs?
- View a timeline of events for each call, including ASR, NLU, and TTS processes
- Identify performance bottlenecks and optimize your assistant's response time
- Track end-to-end latency to ensure a smooth user experience
- Debug issues by examining detailed logs for each component of the call
To access Call Logs, simply navigate to the Calls tab in your Vapi dashboard. From there, you can view logs for individual calls and filter them based on various criteria.
